Mothers Day

There is a mother character in the unfinished Biding Time script. She is old school 'mother', defined by her role as parent and carer. She has spent 40 years in her marriage and is part of that unit. She does essential work and is socially undervalued, although her family love her. She is accepting and adaptable and has amazing powers of self restraint. She is not a victim but she is dependent. Take a moment on this day to think of the millions of women; at the school gate, on maternity wards, in our social system and across the world, who accept that they do not have the power to make major life changing decisions affecting a significant portion of society. And jmagine what the world might look like if they did? Food for thought. Happy Mothers Day.
